Metallica Death Magnetic Album Review

Welcome back, Metallica. After passing the ripe old age of forty-something, the guys have come back full-charged for their ninth studio album. Death Magnetic is super charged with energy and a sense of velocity that hasn't been heard from Metallica in a long time. The songs are super long (shortest song is 5 minutes) and have carefully been put together for a sound reminiscent of some eighties head banging.

Title track, "Cyanide" brings back some classic speed metal that the guys were thought to have left behind years ago. The sheer force that comes from "Broken, Beat and Scarred" is overwhelming. New producer (and long time fan) Rick Rubin, may have brought the guys back to their roots with haunting lyrics, hammering drums, unforgivable guitars, and harsh metal bursts. "Suicide and Redemption" marks a classically gorged instrumental piece that plays out like a dark and demented opera.

The long tracks and somewhat reminiscent sound of an older Metallica can be a little ghastly at times, but if your ready to for some good old fashioned metal that takes you right back to where you began banging your head and thrashing your body...Death Magnetic will be a journey you don't want to miss.
