Street skating is only possible due to Architecture . In-fact any form of skating is. Concrete flat ground at one point was avant guard.
I recently was able to visit the museum of modern art in San Francisco and view some of the new buildings/ plaza's parks and so fourth that J. Mayer H. has been designing. He has not only took inspiration from skating but he has incorporated it into many of his projects. Most of which are in Germany and Europe. Some of the parks and plazas even have drawings in the graph of skaters shredding.
With skating growing so much and the demand of homes offices and skate related business is becoming greater so is the need for an Architect to put together something that is skatebale but yet can be used for business or living. J Mayer H. is a pioneer if not the only innovator of this complex genre of design. I sent J mayer an email though his site and I am hopeful to get an in depth interview with him about some of his concepts as well as some of the parks and plazas he has already erected that feature skate-Abel terrain. We as skaters have been innovators for our entire reign. Since some surfer took roller skates and mounted them to a 2X4. it does not surprise me that we as a whole who look at every little detail in ledges curbs nibs jibs bulk heads hubba;s low to high , rails etc. can easily move into a field that builds cities for the future, and still provide us with new things to skate. With the school of thought in the states being so closed minded and professors teaching their future architecture students to make things as non skate friendly as possible. To even go as far as beveled edges on ledge's and drawing in superficial holes and slices into anything that could be skated on, it is a breath of fresh air that the god people in germany are welcoming innovation creativity and skating with open arms. As the US. is closing every Avenue we have for progression. I salute J mayer H. and any other artist in his field. who is helping us as true street skaters stay alive. keep posted for up dates if I can get an interview with him about his work. I need to brush up on my german and or maybe even fly to berlin. anybody got a place for me to crash if I fly over? Jedes haben ein Haus, das ich an schlafen kann?
